# Synq Privacy Policy

Synq (“the app”) lets people on the same local network use multiple Android phones as a synchronized speaker group. This policy explains what Synq processes and what it does not do.

## Information processed by Synq

### Device and group information

When a phone creates or joins a group, Synq processes the phone’s Android model/display name and a random app-generated device identifier. These values are used to discover phones, show the group member list, approve or remove members, and keep playback synchronized.

### Audio files

The host processes an audio file only after the user selects it with Android’s document picker. The file name, size, duration, media type, and SHA-256 checksum are used to prepare and verify playback. When the user approves a phone, the audio file and this metadata may be transferred to that phone over the local network. Received and imported copies are stored in Synq’s private app storage so the same file does not need to be transferred again.

Synq does not upload audio files to a developer-operated server. The user is responsible for having the right to share any audio file with the group.

### Diagnostics and clipboard

The optional Sync debugger creates a local playback/network timeline. Synq copies this report to the clipboard only when the user taps the copy action. The user controls whether that clipboard text is shared with another person or service.

## How information is used

Synq uses the information above only to:

- discover and connect phones on the local network;
- request and approve group membership;
- transfer and verify the selected audio file;
- coordinate playback, clock measurements, volume, and synchronization; and
- display local status and diagnostics.

Synq does not use this information for advertising, profiling, marketing, or tracking.

## Network permissions and sharing

Synq uses Android Wi-Fi/service-discovery and nearby-device permissions to find phones on the same local network. Data is sent only between phones participating in the group. Synq has no user account system, advertising SDK, analytics SDK, or developer cloud backend. Use a trusted local network because other devices on that network may be able to observe or receive traffic intended for the group.

## Storage and retention

Device preferences, the random device identifier, saved-track metadata, imported audio, and received audio remain in the app’s private storage on the phone. Synq does not maintain a remote copy. Clearing the app’s data or uninstalling Synq removes this local information according to Android’s storage behavior. Audio files selected for sharing remain on participating phones until the user removes the app data or deletes them using available device/app storage controls.

## Third parties

Synq does not sell, rent, or disclose information to third parties. Android system components such as the document picker, Wi-Fi service discovery, and the operating system may process information under Google’s or the device manufacturer’s own policies.

## Children

Synq is not directed specifically to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through a developer-operated service.

## Security

Synq uses app-private storage, local-network membership controls, file-size limits, and SHA-256 verification to reduce accidental or corrupted transfers. No method of local-network communication is completely secure, so users should use a trusted network and share only audio they are permitted to share.

## Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when Synq’s behavior or legal requirements change. The effective date above will be updated when a new version is published.
